As a professional boxer and nutritionist, Christina knows the importance of proper nutrition when it comes to working out. And when it comes to protein, there are a few key things to look for to ensure you're getting the best quality products for your body.

First and foremost, timing is key when it comes to protein.

Before hitting the gym, you'll want to stick to easily digestible carbohydrates such as a banana, Christina explains. But after your workout is when you should get your proteins in, whether that's through protein bars or shakes.

3 things you should keep in mind when choosing a protein product:

  1. <15

A rule of thumb: A protein bar or shake should not list more than 15 ingredients. If the list fills the entire packaging – back to the shelf with that!

  2. Protein ≠ Protein

Look for what kind of protein is actually in there. It should be whey protein – that’s easily digestible for our body and helps with building muscle. Or casein, which is also okay.

  3. Protein > Sugar

Oftentimes such protein products can be real sugar bombs. Keep in mind, that the main ingredient should always be protein and not sugar. Ideally, there shouldn’t be more than 5g of sugar in your protein bar and in total also not more than 20g of carbohydrates.

Watch the clip to learn a few easy and very effective tips to keep in mind when shopping for protein.

With these tips in mind, you'll be able to find the best quality protein products to fuel your workouts and help you reach your fitness goals.
